The Samsung Galaxy S with a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 based on Hummingbird (a CPU code) along with 816 GB internal memory, a 4 inch 480800 pixel Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen display, with a 5 megapixel camera and a VGA front-facing cam. The base version of the Smartphone, GT-I9000, was quickly followed by different versions or variant models for the US carriers, including the Epic 4G, Captivate, Vibrant and Fascinate.

The Samsung Galaxy S has a PowerVR graphical processor yielding 90 million triangles per second, making it the latest in technology and fastest graphics processing unit in any Android phone up to date. It was the 1st Android phone to be certified for DivX HD,and at 9.9mm it was the slimmest Android phone at the time of release. As of October 2010 Samsung had sold its units over 5 million phones globally. The Galaxy S was awarded and named the European Smartphone of the Year at the European Imaging and Sound Association- EISA Awards 2010-2011.

Like HTC, Sony Ericsson and Motorola, Samsung has designed its own social networking software for Android. Social Hub manages all social media, from your texts to Facebook messages, in one streamlined interface. Other Smart Life features also includes Daily Briefing, which lets you customize weather feeds, news and other important information, a DLNA and Smart Alarm media sharing.

The Galaxy S is also the first phone to support Smart Life, Samsung's new user interface for social network Twitter. Based on the company's TouchWiz UI, which seen on both Android and Windows Mobile devices, Smart Life seems a lot intuitive and slicker. It is easier and cleaner to navgate than TouchWiz 3.0, which shipped on the Android-based Behold II.
